Background
Between May 2020 and December 2024, Egypt Cotton and Textile Industries Holding Company restructured 21 companies into 10 new textile subsidiaries. A restructuring of this scale changes who is accountable for legacy environmental conditions, which permits transfer, and how environmental and social requirements apply to entities that did not exist when the original liabilities arose — questions that must be resolved before, not after, the corporate structure is settled.
Objective
Support CTIHC restructuring with environmental and social requirements per IFC Performance Standards.
Outcome
The programme gave the holding company a consistent environmental and social position across a complex, multi-year reorganisation, and left the new subsidiaries with defined obligations rather than inherited ambiguity. Sustained engagement over that period also meant requirements could adapt as the corporate structure evolved.
