Project Summary

A comprehensive Needs Assessment to guide the development of an effective, sustainable, and financially viable waste recycling system and support WMRA’s regulatory role.

Objective

Conducting a comprehensive Needs Assessment for the Packaging Waste Recycling System in Egypt, with attention to technical, legal, financial, institutional, and social aspects to support the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and promoting circular economy principles.

Scope of Work

  • Current situation and gap analysis
  • Regulatory and Institutional Review
  • ⁠Stakeholder mapping and engagement, conducting interviews and consultations to analyse stakeholder relationships and coordination gaps.
  • ⁠Informal Sector Assessment
  • ⁠Map informal workers involved in packaging waste, assessing their working conditions, material recovery contributions, and proposing strategies for integrating them into the formal recycling system.
  • ⁠Technical and Infrastructure Assessment, evaluating the current recycling infrastructure, identifying gaps and proposing improvements.
  • ⁠Suggestion of recommendations and an actionable roadmap to strengthen the packaging waste recycling system in Egypt.
