Guidelines for Hazardous Plastics Collection, Transportation, Treatment and Disposal
Development of guidelines for hazardous plastic waste management including collection, segregation, transportation, treatment, and disposal.

Background
Plastic waste is usually treated as a recycling question, but a subset is genuinely hazardous — contaminated packaging, agricultural chemical containers, medical plastics, and polymers carrying additives of concern. Egypt needed guidance that operators and regulators could apply in practice, covering the full chain rather than a single stage.
Objective
Develop practical hazardous plastics management guidelines.
Outcome
The guidelines provide a consistent national reference for hazardous plastic waste, covering the full chain from generation to final disposal. Chain-wide coverage matters because hazardous waste controls fail at the handovers — between generator and carrier, and between carrier and treatment facility.
Standards and frameworks applied
- Basel Convention
- Stockholm Convention
- Egyptian Waste Management Law 202/2020 and its executive regulations
- Sustainable Recycling Industries methodology
